AI firm Perplexity AI has introduced a new intelligent assistant, “Personal Computer,” designed to operate across Mac devices, marking a further step in the evolution of AI-driven productivity tools.
The application builds on the company’s earlier “Perplexity Computer” system and leverages multimodal orchestration capabilities to interact with files, applications, and web-based resources. According to the company, the assistant can execute complex and continuous tasks—ranging from organizing files to managing workflows—by integrating with core macOS applications such as messaging and note-taking tools.
Perplexity stated that the system is designed with user oversight in mind, operating within a secure, isolated environment where actions remain transparent, reviewable, and reversible. Voice commands and cross-device control features, including mobile integration, further enhance usability.
The launch places Perplexity alongside competitors such as Anthropic and OpenAI, which have recently introduced similar AI-driven computer-use tools.
The Middle East Observer notes that the rollout—initially available to premium subscribers—reflects intensifying competition in the AI assistant market, as firms race to develop systems capable of autonomously managing digital workflows.
The Middle East Observer further observes that such tools signal a broader shift toward “agent-based computing,” where AI systems act as operational extensions of users, raising both productivity potential and governance considerations.
