Orascom-Led Consortium Signs PPA for 900 MW Wind Farm in Gulf of Suez

Must read

CAIRO — A consortium led by Orascom Construction has signed a power purchase agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company to develop a 900-megawatt wind farm near Ras Shukeir in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez.

The project will be executed under a 25-year build-own-operate (BOO) model by a consortium comprising Orascom Construction (25%), Aeolus—the African renewable energy platform of Toyota Tsusho Corporation—with a 40% stake, and ENGIE holding the remaining 35%.

Orascom Construction will be responsible for delivering the project’s civil and electrical works, including balance of plant infrastructure, as well as supplying selected local components.

The wind farm is expected to reach financial close by the third quarter of 2026 and forms part of Egypt’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy capacity and diversify its energy mix.

The project marks the consortium’s third wind development, following two previously completed BOO wind farms with a combined capacity of 912.5 MW, both delivered ahead of schedule.

Upon completion, the new facility will raise Orascom Construction’s total wind power capacity to approximately 1.8 gigawatts, while further expanding its concessions portfolio across renewable energy, water and logistics projects in Egypt and the wider region, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
