Egypt Legalizes 191 Churches as Part of Ongoing Reform Drive

Must read

Cairo — Egypt has approved the legalization of 191 churches and affiliated service buildings, as part of its ongoing national effort to regularize places of worship and promote religious inclusivity.

According to an official statement by the Egyptian Cabinet, the decision was taken during a meeting of the committee responsible for reviewing the legal and engineering status of religious structures, chaired by Mostafa Madbouly. The review process ensures compliance with national safety and regulatory standards.

With this latest approval, the total number of legalized churches and related facilities has reached approximately 3,804 since the committee began its work. As The Middle East Observer notes, the initiative forms part of a broader state policy aimed at resolving the status of previously unlicensed buildings constructed over past decades.

The Middle East Observer understands that authorities have placed strong emphasis on safety compliance, including the installation of fire protection systems and structural reinforcements, to ensure secure environments for worshippers and surrounding communities.
