Cairo — Egypt is advancing its strategy to localize electronics manufacturing following high-level discussions between Raafat Hindi and executives from HONOR on expanding smartphone production in the country.
According to an official statement by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Egypt, the talks focused on scaling operations at HONOR’s factory in 10th of Ramadan City, which represents the company’s first manufacturing facility outside China. The plant is expected to reach an annual production capacity of up to 3 million devices and create around 1,000 jobs.
As The Middle East Observer notes, the expansion aligns with Egypt’s broader “localization of technology” agenda, aimed at building a competitive domestic electronics industry while supporting exports to regional markets under the “Made in Egypt” initiative. The Middle East Observer understands that the factory, currently in trial operation, is scheduled for official launch later this year and will feature advanced production lines, including high-performance SMT systems.
Officials emphasized that the initiative is part of a wider national strategy to attract foreign investment, technology transfer, and develop local skills in high-value industries. HONOR executives highlighted Egypt’s strategic position as a regional hub serving the Middle East and Africa, supported by strong partnerships with local firms and growing market demand.
