Egypt’s Food Trade Momentum Accelerates Across 186 Global Markets

Must read

Egypt has recorded a notable increase in food trade volumes, with both imports and exports showing strong momentum in late March and early April 2026, according to data released by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) and reported by Daily News Egypt.

On the import side, the country received 2,440 consignments totalling approximately 510,000 tonnes, handled by 995 importing firms. Key commodities included wheat, edible oils, and soybeans, underscoring Egypt’s continued focus on securing essential food supplies.

Exports also demonstrated solid growth, with 5,065 consignments amounting to around 230,000 tonnes shipped to 186 countries. Citrus fruits led outbound shipments at 45,000 tonnes, followed by strawberries at 20,000 tonnes and potatoes at 25,000 tonnes, with major destinations including Saudi Arabia and Russia.

To facilitate trade and ensure compliance with international standards, the NFSA issued 1,375 health certificates and 3,218 export permits, supporting 1,582 companies and enhancing access to global markets. These measures aim to reinforce product quality, streamline export procedures, and strengthen Egypt’s competitiveness in the agri-food sector.

As The Middle East Observer notes, the sustained expansion in Egypt’s food trade reflects a dual strategy of securing domestic supply chains while actively positioning the country as a reliable exporter within global agricultural markets, supported by regulatory alignment and quality assurance frameworks.
