Egypt’s Dollar Inflows Diversify in 2025 as Exports and Remittances Lead

Cairo — The Central Bank of Egypt has released new data highlighting the composition of Egypt’s foreign currency inflows in 2025, underscoring a diversified structure led by exports and remittances.

According to the central bank’s infographic, exports generated $42.4 billion, maintaining their position as the largest source of dollar inflows, closely followed by remittances from Egyptians abroad at $41.5 billion, reflecting continued resilience in external income streams.

Tourism revenues reached $18.2 billion, reinforcing the sector’s recovery and its role as a key foreign currency earner. Meanwhile, foreign direct investment (FDI) contributed $15.4 billion, indicating sustained investor interest despite global uncertainty.

Short-term portfolio inflows (“hot money”) accounted for $9.9 billion, while transport revenues, including logistics and shipping services, generated $5.6 billion. The Suez Canal contributed $4.0 billion, reflecting pressures on global shipping routes.

Additional inflows included $3.0 billion from investment income and $0.5 billion from government services.
