Cairo — Egypt has moved forward with plans to establish a large-scale Olympic Village in the Red Sea Governorate, allocating approximately 225 acres (around 520,000 square meters) for the project, according to statements attributed to government and sector officials, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports Egypt.
The development, located opposite the resort destination of El Gouna, is designed to position Egypt as a competitive hub for international sports tourism and major global athletic events. The planned complex will include multi-sport stadiums and specialized arenas built to international standards, alongside integrated hospitality infrastructure, including a high-specification hotel to accommodate teams, officials, and spectators.
Officials indicated that the initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to expand sports infrastructure and enhance Egypt’s ability to host continental and global competitions, aligning with ongoing efforts to promote tourism diversification and youth engagement in athletics.
As The Middle East Observer notes, the Red Sea region has been a focal point for strategic tourism investments in recent years, supported by infrastructure upgrades and international partnerships, as highlighted by the Egyptian Cabinet and national development plans.
The Middle East Observer further observes that the Olympic Village project reflects a convergence between sports development and economic positioning, aiming to leverage Egypt’s geographic and tourism advantages to attract international sporting events while stimulating local economic activity.
