Egyptian petroleum engineering company ENPPI has secured a USD 355 million turnkey contract from Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) to execute a major gas infrastructure expansion project in Oman, marking the company’s first entry into the Omani market.
The contract covers the Budour–North East Birba Integrated Project in Oman’s Dhofar Governorate and is regarded as one of ENPPI’s most significant regional awards to date amid growing Gulf investment in gas-processing and emissions-reduction infrastructure.
Under the agreement, ENPPI will act as the main EPC contractor on a full turnkey basis, handling engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up operations, and six months of operational support following handover.
The project aims to triple gas-processing capacity at the Birba Gathering Station from 1.4 million standard cubic metres per day to 4.2 million cubic metres per day, while maintaining oil-processing capacity at approximately 4,000 cubic metres daily. The development also includes upgrades to gas-processing and utilisation systems designed to reduce routine gas flaring and improve operational efficiency.
The project forms part of PDO’s broader environmental strategy to eliminate routine gas flaring by 2030 through flare-gas recovery and sustainability measures, reflecting wider Gulf efforts to improve energy efficiency and lower operational emissions across hydrocarbon infrastructure.
Industry observers view the award as a strategic breakthrough for Egypt’s petroleum services sector as state-owned engineering and construction firms increasingly expand into Gulf infrastructure markets in search of long-term foreign-currency revenues and regional market share.
The Oman contract adds to ENPPI’s growing regional portfolio, which includes major energy infrastructure projects in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The company is currently participating in a USD 1.2 billion LNG pre-conditioning project for ADNOC in the UAE alongside Petrojet, while also executing natural gas liquids storage facilities for Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia.
The award follows discussions between Egyptian Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi and Omani energy officials earlier this year aimed at expanding the participation of Egyptian companies in Oman’s oil and gas sector.
