Cultivated Wheat Area Jumps by 600,000 Feddans in 2025/2026 Season

Must read

Cairo — Egypt’s agricultural sector has recorded a significant advancement in wheat production over the current growing season, as cultivated land for wheat has exceeded 3.7 million feddans, marking a substantial increase of approximately 600,000 feddans in comparison to last season.

According to official statements issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and disseminated via the Egyptian Cabinet Media Center, this expansion reflects a coordinated national effort to strengthen food security and enhance domestic production capacity.

As The Middle East Observer observes, the improvement is not limited to land expansion alone, but extends to productivity gains, with average yields rising to between 18 and 20 ardeb per feddan. These gains have been largely attributed to sustained research and development efforts undertaken by the ministry’s specialized research centers.

The Agriculture sector has benefited from the introduction of newly developed, high-quality seed varieties, alongside the wider adoption of modern agricultural practices designed to optimize crop performance and resource efficiency. This integrated approach, combining scientific innovation with field-level application, has played a decisive role in elevating overall productivity.

Within this context, The Middle East Observer understands that Egypt continues to prioritize both horizontal expansion in cultivated areas and vertical improvements in yield, positioning wheat as a central pillar in its long-term food security strategy amid evolving global supply dynamics.
