Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, has issued a ministerial decision appointing engineer Walid El Aasar as Chairman and Managing Director of PetroGulf Egypt, as part of an ongoing restructuring and leadership renewal programme within Egypt’s petroleum sector.
The appointment reflects the Ministry’s broader strategy of promoting experienced technical leaders with strong operational and field-development backgrounds to support production growth, improve operational efficiency, and maximise the utilisation of petroleum assets and producing fields.
El Aasar is regarded as one of the sector’s experienced technical executives in the areas of field development and hydrocarbon production. He graduated from Suez Canal University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering in 2000 and began his professional career within the Egyptian petroleum sector in 2002 as an engineer at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation.
Over the past two decades, he advanced through a series of technical and executive positions within the sector. In 2019, he was appointed General Manager of Field Development at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, overseeing one of the sector’s key portfolios linked to increasing production capacity and enhancing the efficiency of petroleum field operations.
In 2023, El Aasar was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of PetroSina before later assuming leadership roles at Osoco and Mansoura Petroleum Company, where he supervised several operational and production-related initiatives.
His appointment to lead PetroGulf Egypt comes at a time when Egypt continues to focus on sustaining domestic energy production, enhancing operational performance, and accelerating development activities across strategic oil and gas assets as part of broader efforts to strengthen the resilience and efficiency of the country’s petroleum industry.
