President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Abdullah II, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, at Al-Ittihadiya Palace on Monday, where the two leaders held extensive talks underscoring the depth of Egyptian-Jordanian relations and their shared positions on the most pressing regional challenges.

An official reception ceremony was held at the palace, featuring an honour guard salute, the playing of the national anthems, and a joint photograph session. This was followed by a bilateral meeting between the two leaders, an expanded session attended by senior officials from both sides, and a luncheon hosted by President El-Sisi in honour of the Jordanian monarch and his accompanying delegation.

President El-Sisi welcomed King Abdullah II to what he described as his second home, Egypt, reaffirming the historic fraternal ties between the two countries and stressing the importance of advancing cooperation in a manner that serves the interests and aspirations of both peoples. King Abdullah II, in turn, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and emphasised Jordan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and maintaining close political coordination with Egypt on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The talks focused heavily on developments in the Gaza Strip, where both leaders stressed the urgent need for the full implementation of the agreement to halt the war, ensure the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid, and swiftly begin early recovery and reconstruction efforts. They reaffirmed Egypt’s and Jordan’s firm rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people from their land.

Discussions also covered the situation in the West Bank, with both leaders condemning ongoing violations and unilateral practices against Palestinians. President El-Sisi and King Abdullah II reiterated that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only viable path to achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

The meeting further addressed regional developments, highlighting the need to de-escalate tensions, resolve conflicts through peaceful means, respect state sovereignty, and preserve the unity and resources of regional nations. Both sides also expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral relations and stressed the importance of further cooperation, including preparations for the upcoming session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee.

President El-Sisi later accompanied King Abdullah II to Cairo International Airport, bidding him farewell as he departed for Jordan.
