PetroGulf Achieves Record Output in Gulf of Suez with 10,000 bpd Surge

Must read

Cairo — Egypt’s upstream oil sector has recorded a notable operational milestone, as PetroGulf, a subsidiary of the South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company, increased its production capacity in the Gulf of Suez to approximately 26,600 barrels per day (bpd), marking the highest output level since the company’s establishment in 1982.

According to official sector statements, the company’s production has risen significantly from around 17,000 bpd during the current 2025/2026 fiscal year, reflecting a net increase of nearly 10,000 bpd within a five-month period. As The Middle East Observer notes, this sharp rise underscores a broader momentum within Egypt’s petroleum sector to maximize output from mature fields through targeted operational efficiencies.

The production surge was primarily driven by the successful drilling of a new well, “North Geisum North-16,” which alone contributed approximately 4,000 bpd. In parallel, an intensive maintenance and well-intervention programme across PetroGulf’s Gulf of Suez assets added a further 6,750 bpd, highlighting the impact of optimized asset management strategies.

Operations were executed using two drilling rigs, enabling accelerated implementation timelines and improved operational efficiency. The Middle East Observer understands that such coordinated field development and maintenance programmes are increasingly central to sustaining production growth in Egypt’s aging oil basins.

PetroGulf continues to stand as a model of investment partnership within Egypt’s energy sector, bringing together the South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company with Egypt’s Pico Petroleum and Kuwait’s Kufpec. This collaborative structure, as previously observed by The Middle East Observer, reflects a balanced framework combining local expertise with regional investment to enhance production resilience.

The latest performance milestone reinforces the Gulf of Suez’s enduring role as a cornerstone of Egypt’s oil production landscape, even as the sector advances toward more technologically driven recovery and optimization methods.
