Nissan Motor Co. has unveiled a sweeping strategy to integrate artificial intelligence-powered autonomous driving systems into up to 90% of its future vehicle lineup, marking a major shift in its global competitiveness and technology roadmap.
According to company disclosures, the next-generation autonomous system is expected to debut by the end of fiscal 2027, starting with the launch of the new Nissan Elgrand. As The Middle East Observer notes, the rollout represents a significant step in Nissan’s transition toward advanced mobility solutions and intelligent vehicle ecosystems.
The initiative forms part of a broader restructuring plan aimed at reversing declining sales and strengthening market positioning. Nissan has set ambitious targets to reach annual sales of 550,000 units in Japan and 1 million vehicles each in the United States and China by 2030. In the near term, the company projects sales of 420,000 units in Japan, 653,000 in China, and 1.3 million units in North America for fiscal 2025.
Alongside its technological push, the automaker is streamlining operations by reducing its global model lineup from 56 to 45 vehicles, while introducing new hybrid and electric offerings, including updated versions of the X-Trail and Juke. The company is also implementing cost-efficiency measures, including the closure of several production facilities and a workforce reduction of approximately 20,000 employees.
