Egypt Tourism Reaches 19 Million Visitors in 2025, Outpacing Global Growth Trends

Must read

Egypt’s tourism sector delivered a robust performance in 2025, welcoming approximately 19 million international visitors, reflecting a 21% year-on-year increase, according to statements reported by the State Information Service (SIS).

Analysis by The Middle East Observer indicates that this growth not only surpasses global tourism averages but also signals sustained international confidence in Egypt as a stable destination amid regional geopolitical volatility.

The Sector’s performance aligns with Egypt’s long-term strategy to attract 30 million visitors annually by 2030, underpinned by expanding aviation connectivity and institutional support. Egypt’s strong presence at ITB Berlin 2026—featuring approximately 300 exhibitors—further reinforced its global market positioning, while Cairo International Airport continues to consolidate its role as a regional hub, notably without the imposition of additional insurance premiums tied to regional tensions.

From a structural perspective, The Middle East Observer notes that the sector’s evolution is increasingly driven by sustainability and digital transformation. Approximately 44% of Egypt’s hotels have transitioned to environmentally sustainable operations, reflecting a broader national push toward green tourism standards. Meanwhile, the Grand Egyptian Museum has emerged as a cornerstone asset in Egypt’s cultural tourism strategy, attracting an estimated 15,000 visitors daily and reinforcing the country’s global tourism appeal.

On the institutional front, labour modernisation is also gaining traction. The General Union of Tourism and Hotel Workers is preparing to implement fully digitalised union elections in 2026, aimed at enhancing transparency, operational efficiency, and governance within the sector.

As assessed by The Middle East Observer, Egypt’s tourism industry is entering a phase of more structured growth—where scale, sustainability, and system-wide modernisation converge—positioning the sector as a critical pillar in the country’s economic resilience and long-term development strategy.
