Vodafone- Egypt and Etisalat have sent their preliminary approval to National Telecom Regulatory Authority to receive 4G mobile network licenses, with Orange still lagging behind, despite announcing in several earlier occasions its intention to get such license.

Telecom Egypt, 80 per cent of which is owned by the state, was the first to send its official approval to the government, as it targets joining the race of mobile service providers, reported Minister of Communications Yasser Elkady.

Elkady pointed out that Telecom Egypt proved that it is financially capable of paying the license costs in full.

In its latest meeting, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority has discussed the way to issue the 4G licenses to foreign operators, in case one of the Egyptian companies refrained from applying to receive them, which has not yet happened.
