Gulf Countries Introduce Schengen-Style Visa for Seamless Travel

Must read

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is set to introduce a Schengen-style visa that will allow seamless travel across its member states. The new GCC Grand Tours Visa, also referred to as the Unified Tourist Visa, is poised to make exploring the Gulf region easier than ever.

Approved in 2023, this innovative visa will grant entry to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates with a single permit. Currently, visitors must apply for separate visas for each of these countries, a process that can be both time-consuming and costly.

The Unified Tourist Visa aims to streamline this process, offering a simpler and more cost-effective option for travelers wishing to explore multiple Gulf nations in one trip. The visa will be accessible via a single online portal, reducing the administrative burden for visitors and facilitating a more efficient travel experience.

Travelers will have the option to apply for either a single-country or multi-country visa, depending on their itinerary. Eligibility criteria specify that the visa is intended for tourism, short-term stays, or visiting family and friends, but it does not permit employment or long-term residency.

While details of the visa’s validity period are yet to be finalized, it is expected to range from 30 to 90 days. The fee structure has not been announced, but authorities promise that the multi-country option will be a budget-friendly alternative to obtaining six separate visas.

The GCC aims to launch the Unified Tourist Visa by late 2025 or early 2026. Once the system is live, applications will be processed entirely online. Prospective travelers will need to provide personal details, travel plans, and necessary documentation, including a valid passport, travel insurance, proof of accommodation, and financial means to support their stay.

Upon approval, the visa will be emailed to applicants, who will also need to carry a printed copy during their travels.

Travel industry expert, Dr. Nadia Al-Mansouri, commented on the initiative, stating, “The introduction of the Unified Tourist Visa is a strategic move that will undoubtedly enhance the Gulf’s appeal as a tourist destination. It not only simplifies travel but also encourages cultural exchange and economic collaboration among member states.”

As the launch date approaches, the GCC is expected to release further details on the application process and pricing, paving the way for a new era of interconnected travel within the Gulf region.
