Borouge Advances AI-Driven Operations at Ruwais

Must read

Borouge has completed a successful proof of concept for AI-powered autonomous operations at its Ruwais facility, marking a significant step in the digital transformation of petrochemical operations. The milestone was delivered in collaboration with Honeywell and supports Borouge’s strategy to enhance efficiency, reliability, and long-term competitiveness, while aligning with ADNOC’s ambition to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company.

The proof of concept, conducted in a live production environment and building on trials carried out in 2025, demonstrated the potential to raise operational efficiency by up to 20%, cut downtime by 20%, and reduce operating costs by as much as 15%. In parallel, the technology strengthens process safety and supports more sustainable operations through lower energy consumption and reduced emissions.

The initiative represents tangible progress toward the petrochemical sector’s first AI-driven control room capable of full-scale, real-time autonomous operations. It also forms a core pillar of Borouge’s AI, Digitalization & Technology (AIDT) program, which targeted $575 million in value generation in 2025 through a portfolio of AI- and digital-led initiatives.

Borouge said the successful outcome reinforces its focus on disciplined execution and operational impact. Honeywell highlighted that the collaboration proves AI-enabled autonomous operations can be deployed safely and effectively at scale in complex industrial settings.

Following the milestone, Borouge plans to further validate the technology and assess opportunities to scale autonomous operations across its Ruwais facilities, accelerating digital adoption across its production base.
