Borouge Plc, a leader in polyolefin solutions, is joining forces with global technology giant Honeywell to develop the industry’s first AI-driven control room. This ambitious project is designed to optimize operations at Borouge’s UAE facilities, setting a new benchmark for efficiency and innovation in petrochemicals.
The initiative is part of Borouge’s AI, Digitalization, and Technology (AIDT) program, which targets $575 million in value generation by 2025. The collaboration aims to deploy autonomous operations across Borouge’s Ruwais facilities, enhancing production capabilities, reducing energy consumption, and improving safety measures—all while cutting costs at what will soon be the world’s largest petrochemical site.
Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, CEO of Borouge, emphasized the significance of this venture, stating, “Our partnership with Honeywell is pivotal in accelerating our growth and enhancing shareholder value. This project not only demonstrates our commitment to operational excellence but also reinforces our competitive edge in the global petrochemical industry.”
George Bou Mitri, President of Honeywell Industrial Automation for the Middle East, Turkey, Africa, and Central Asia, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the transformative potential of AI and automation. “Integrating advanced technologies into Borouge’s operations exemplifies how innovation can drive efficiency and reshape industrial practices at scale,” he remarked.
The project underscores a broader trend towards a precedent of digitalization and sustainability in the Middle East’s industrial sectors. As Borouge embraces AI-driven solutions, it signals a commitment to not only enhancing operational metrics but also contributing to broader economic and environmental goals.
