During the General Assembly of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), Engineer Karim Badawi, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, emphasized the critical role of the national natural gas network, operated by GASCO, in supplying energy across the nation. With its reach extending to 120 million Egyptians, the network serves as a vital artery for various economic and industrial sectors. “Our integrated efforts are crucial in addressing the national energy demands,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of meticulous planning and collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy. This united approach aims to ensure the country meets its electricity consumption needs efficiently, especially as the summer season approaches.

Badawi outlined plans to enhance the national gas infrastructure, particularly in accommodating imports from new FSRU ships in the Sokhna area. This involves converting liquefied natural gas into its gaseous state to bolster supply capabilities. The focus on infrastructure also includes safeguarding the national grid during projects and ensuring public safety through efficient coordination with local authorities.

Highlighting societal progress, Badawi stressed the importance of gender diversity in technical roles within the energy sector, advocating for increased female representation in engineering positions. Additionally, the ministry is advancing its strategy for digital transformation, having completed the first phase of the “Energy Resource Planning (ERP)” program in collaboration with SAP.

Engineer Yasser Salah El-Din, Chairman of GASCO, presented the company’s achievements in 2024, including the transportation of approximately 64 billion cubic meters of natural gas. With the electricity sector consuming 56% of this supply, the company plays a vital role in meeting increasing demands. The development of new infrastructure projects, such as the expansion of the Dahshur compressor station and the introduction of hydrogen transport and carbon capture activities, were highlighted as strategic initiatives.

GASCO’s dedication to occupational health and safety has resulted in exemplary performance, with indicators below global rates. The company is also focused on energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions, achieving significant savings and a notable reduction in CO2 emissions.

In alignment with its corporate social responsibility goals, GASCO has supported educational institutions in Alexandria and contributed to community development projects, including the construction of pedestrian bridges and the rehabilitation of village homes.

The assembly, attended by key figures in Egypt’s energy sector, reflected the collaborative effort to strengthen the national gas transmission network and address future energy challenges.
