Egypt and South Africa have emerged as the twin powerhouses of African wealth, according to the newly released Africa Wealth Report 2025 by consultancy Henley & Partners.
The report shows that Egypt is home to 14,800 millionaires, securing its place as the second-wealthiest country on the continent. South Africa leads the ranking with 41,100 millionaires, representing more than a third (34%) of Africa’s total high-net-worth population.
Beyond South Africa and Egypt, Africa’s top wealth hubs are rounded out by Morocco (7,500 millionaires), Nigeria (7,200), and Kenya (6,800). Collectively, these five countries account for 63% of the continent’s millionaire population and an even larger share — 88% — of Africa’s billionaires.
At the urban level, Johannesburg continues to wear the crown with 11,700 millionaires, making it Africa’s richest city. Cape Town follows with 8,500, while Cairo takes third place with 6,800 high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), reinforcing its role as a rising financial hub in North Africa.
Across the African continent, Henley’s data highlights 122,500 millionaires, 348 centi-millionaires (individuals with wealth exceeding $100 million), and 25 billionaires. The figures underscore Africa’s growing significance in global wealth creation, even as income inequality remains a pressing challenge.
