Minister of Agriculture Dr Essam Fayed said that the ministry is still carrying on with its expansion plan, under which it targets opening up new markets abroad. It aims at boosting Egyptian agricultural exports to different states – especially in Europe and Asia, through adopting best practices in the field.

Dr Fayed pointed out that this plan would positively contribute to increasing the state’s foreign currency revenues, to fulfill food importing needs, in coordination with relevant authorities.

Since the beginning of the year, Egyptian fruit and vegetable exports have reached 932,679 tons, precisely 629,883 tons of fruits, hitting top spot on its exporting list, and 302,796 tons of vegetables.

Egypt’s total agricultural exports have undergone a major leap this season, according to the minister. Exports of potatoes, strawberries, grapes and citrus fruits reached 1,490,552 tons so far, in addition to 475,738 tons of onions to several states across the world- excluding India who imported 23,966 tons only.
