Egypt has recorded a major advance in global digital governance rankings, rising 47 places in 2025 compared with its position in 2022, when it was ranked 69th worldwide as a category B country with a maturity score of 0.751, according to a cabinet statement issued on Sunday.
The Global Technology and Maturity Index (GTMI), developed by the World Bank, assesses the strength of governments’ core digital systems. It evaluates how effectively countries deploy digital technologies to improve public services, enhance governance, and strengthen engagement with citizens.
The statement said Egypt achieved progress across all of the index’s main pillars. Its automation score increased to 0.916 out of 1, up from 0.783, while the score for digital delivery of government services rose to 0.962 from 0.795. Egypt also posted a marked improvement in digital engagement and communication with citizens, with its score climbing to 0.896 from 0.626. The digital government enablers pillar showed gains as well, rising to 0.869 from 0.802.
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said the ministry’s top priority remains expanding digital capabilities, rolling out technology-driven programmes, and developing the digital skills of government personnel to support administrative transformation, the statement added.
