UMS Teams Up with TikTok to Modernize Egypt’s Media Reach

Must read

United Media Services (UMS) announced a significant partnership with TikTok. The August agreement focuses on revitalizing UMS’s extensive media content, leveraging TikTok’s reach—especially among younger audiences—to re-envision content presentation.

UMS, one of the largest media conglomerates in the Arab world with over 40 media assets spanning TV, digital platforms, and print, aims to repurpose existing content in fresh and authentic ways. By weaving modern storytelling and interactive formats, the partnership seeks to amplify audience engagement via TikTok’s platform.

Content consumption is shifting—globally and in the Middle East. Younger Egyptians increasingly turn to short-form, dynamic video platforms like TikTok for news, entertainment, and cultural content. This partnership marks UMS’s transition from linear broadcasting toward a hybrid, audience-driven model.

Media analyst Karim Fahmy reflects: “UMS is leveraging TikTok’s algorithms and interactive formats to make heritage and institutional content feel relevant. This is about embracing narrative agility while retaining credibility.”

UMS’s choice aligns with broader patterns in regional media, where digital platforms outpace conventional TV viewing, especially in 18–34 demographics.

While UMS said the agreement will focus on “repurposing content with a fresh vision”, specifics on programming, content categories, or a rollout timeline weren’t disclosed. A UMS spokesperson, however, hinted to Arab Media Pulse that pilot streams featuring cultural, educational, and heritage content will begin within the coming weeks. The spokesperson also revealed the development of TikTok-native productions—short documentaries, behind-the-scenes clips, and interactive storytelling formats tailored to the platform’s style.

This partnership underscores a critical shift: media institutions in Egypt are adapting to evolving viewer behaviors by incorporating digital-first strategies. UMS’s move could set a precedent for similar entities across the region.
