Abu Qir Fertilizers Champions Green Innovation in Egyptian Industry

In a bold move to reinforce its leadership in sustainable industrial practices, Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemical Industries Company, in partnership with Kurita Japan, hosted a high-impact workshop titled “Sustainability and Maximizing Added Value in Egyptian Industry” on May 6, 2025, at the company’s social club in Alexandria.

The workshop was attended by H.E. Eng. Hani Dahi, Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemical Industries Company, H.E. Prof. Dr. Hussein El-Atfy, Secretary General of the Arab Water Council and former Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Prof. Dr. Abdel Aziz Qansouh, President of Alexandria University, Eng. Hassan Abdel Alim, Chairman of Helwan Fertilizers Company, Mr. Alaa El-Banna, Chairman of Alexandria Fertilizers Company, Eng. Hossam Asaad, Chairman of EPROM, Eng. Ahmed Mokawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Company, Eng. Reham Alfa, Chairman of Alexandria Petroleum Company, and Dr. Eng. Hesham Saudi, Head of Alexandria Engineers Syndicate, the workshop served as a collaborative platform to explore actionable sustainability strategies and technological innovation across the Egyptian industrial landscape, particularly in the fertilizer and petrochemical sectors.

Chairman and Managing Director Eng. Hani Dahi opened the event with a heartfelt tribute to the late Eng. Abed Ezz El Regal, lauding his legacy and commitment to sustainable development. He reiterated the company’s ambitious sustainability roadmap aligned with Egypt Vision 2030.

Abu Qir Fertilizers showcased its four-pillar sustainability model:

  • Human Development: Investing in talent, training, gender equality, and occupational safety.
  • Environmental Innovation: From solar energy initiatives and carbon recovery systems to green hydrogen projects, the company is leading Egypt’s industrial transition to clean energy.
  • Community Development: Strong CSR commitment through socio-economic programs in surrounding communities.
  • Economic Impact: Integrating sustainability as a driver of profitability and long-term growth.

Cutting-edge insights were shared on AI-driven water treatment, smart chemical solutions for industrial cooling systems, and renewable energy adoption. Partners from Kurita Europe and Egypt presented next-generation technologies for optimizing water and energy use in heavy industries.

Abu Qir Fertilizers is pioneering Egypt’s green industrial transformation, having launched Africa’s largest industrial wastewater reuse plant and initiated solar power expansion projects expected to save hundreds of thousands of EGP annually.

The company has entered the carbon credit market and is developing green ammonia production facilities—reinforcing its role in the global green hydrogen economy.

The workshop concluded with forward-looking recommendations, including deepened collaboration with leading Egyptian universities on artificial intelligence, water tech, and renewable energy solutions.
