Pfizer Egypt and Partners Launch Eczema Awareness Campaign

In a powerful move to spotlight Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema) Awareness Month, Pfizer Egypt has teamed up with the National Council for Motherhood and Childhood and the Egyptian Society for Dermatology and Cosmetology to roll out the second edition of their impactful “Go Out into the World” campaign. This initiative aims to elevate public understanding and dispel myths about eczema, a condition that impacts millions globally.

Starting with a press conference, the campaign will delve into the causes, misdiagnoses, and preventive measures for eczema. Senior dermatologists will lead a multi-week social media blitz, ensuring that the message is both scientifically accurate and easily digestible for the general public.

Dr. Hiam Nazif, Vice President of the National Council for Motherhood and Childhood, highlighted the dual mission of the campaign: “By promoting awareness and combating societal stigma, we align perfectly with our broader goals of fostering a compassionate and informed community. This campaign complements our anti-bullying and discrimination initiatives in schools, aiming to cultivate empathy and understanding among future generations.”

Adding to the discourse, Dr. Asem Farag, President of the Egyptian Society for Dermatology and Cosmetology, emphasized, “Misconceptions about atopic dermatitis can lead to social isolation for patients. Our effort focuses on demystifying the condition and presenting advanced treatment guidelines that can greatly enhance patient lives.”

Global statistics highlight the urgency of this campaign. Dr. Amin Sharobim, Consultant Dermatologist at the Research Institute, pointed out that eczema affects 15-20% of children and 1-3% of adults worldwide. He noted that the condition’s prevalence is rising, particularly in developing nations, due to increasing pollution levels.

Dr. Essam El-Naggar, Pfizer’s Regional Medical Director for Egypt, the Levant, and Iraq, expressed optimism about the campaign’s impact: “At Pfizer, we are committed to pioneering treatments that improve patients’ quality of life. The ‘Go Out’ campaign aims to empower eczema patients, encouraging them to participate in society without fear of stigma. Community education and correcting misinformation are the first steps to reducing discrimination.”

Pfizer’s ongoing support for national health initiatives underscores its dedication to early detection of chronic and rare diseases, and its collaboration with the Ministry of Health aims to enhance the efficiency of medical teams and overall healthcare systems.
