Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to aiding Gabon’s transitional phase, highlighting the strengthening ties between the two African nations. The announcement was made during a joint press conference in Cairo with Gabon’s Transitional President, Brice Oligui Nguema, last Saturday.
President El-Sisi praised Gabon’s ongoing peaceful transition towards democracy, emphasizing the successful referendum on the new Gabonese constitution as a pivotal achievement. “This milestone signifies Gabon’s commitment to democracy and the aspirations of its people,” El-Sisi remarked, noting the international community’s positive reception of Gabon’s progress.
The Egyptian leader emphasized the importance of Gabon’s role in Central Africa, expressing appreciation for its contributions to regional stability. “Egypt values Gabon’s vital contributions to the region and remains dedicated to fostering African integration,” El-Sisi stated, reinforcing the two countries’ shared vision for a stable and prosperous Africa.
The summit highlighted mutual interests, with both leaders underscoring the need for enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, and infrastructure development. They outlined a roadmap for increased trade exchange and stronger ties between the private sectors of both nations. President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s readiness to support Gabon in building infrastructure, including roads and electricity projects, to bolster its developmental efforts.
Health sector collaboration was also a key focus, with discussions on introducing Egyptian medicines to the Gabonese market and strengthening medical ties. In addition, both nations explored avenues for cooperation in agriculture, renewable energy, industry, and transportation, aiming to leverage Egypt’s expertise in these fields to support Gabon’s growth.
President Nguema expressed his country’s commitment to fortifying relations with Egypt, inviting Egyptian businesses to invest in Gabon during its transitional phase. “We are focused on restoring our institutions and implementing peaceful programs that drive progress,” Nguema affirmed, acknowledging Egypt’s developmental strides, such as the construction of the New Administrative Capital.
This meeting marks a continuation of Egypt’s proactive engagement with Gabon, following President El-Sisi’s historic visit to the country in 2017—the first by an Egyptian president. The visit underscored a shared commitment to African solidarity and collaboration.
