Atef Yaqoub, the Head of Consumer Protection Agency (CPA), said that the agency cooperates with the Minister of Health’s Pharmaceutical Affairs Assistant Dr Tarek Soliman, to control drug market, and audit complains filed by some pharmacies or companies.
In light of this, a campaign was formed in Alexandria by law enforcement officers and pharmaceutical inspectors Dr Ola Wali and Dr Sulafa Rifaat. They managed to bust massive amounts of unregistered «Advil Cold» and «Sinus Caplets» in 2 pharmacies in Alexandria, according to inspectors report. Drugs with unknown sources were immediately confiscated after CPA filed a report to the nearest police station,which prosecuted the under case no. 4039/2106 for violating each of: pharmaceutical law no. 127 of the year 1955, anti-deceit law no.48 of the year 1941 and consumer protection act no. 67 of the year 2006.
Yaacoub stressed out that the agency’s duty is to assure consumer protection against harmful practices, particularly those that may be harmful to their health and safety… By adopting the ‘prevention better than cure’ policy, through pursuing proactive measures to educate and caution consumers against harmful products. CPA verifies information with regards to products› safety conditions, in addition to the counterfeit products that are being seized before reaching consumers.
Yacoub pointed out that CPA will carry on with its intensive campaigns to control markets, prevent any harmful practices against consumers and stop trading in commodities that do not meet safety standards.
