Dr. Olfat Ghorab, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Company for Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances (ACdima), said that the first African medical conference hosted by Egypt represents a platform for exchanging experiences and ideas to advance the health care sector. 

Dr. Olfat emphasized that the conference allows for deals and agreements to be concluded to meet the needs of the countries of the continent in light of the increasing medical challenges and lack of qualified human resources in  the continent.

Dr. Olfat said that the proportion of the pharmaceutical industry in the local market is currently about 88%, and it could reach 100% by 2035, according to President El Sisi’s vision.

Dr. Olfat that the ACdima group of companies has expand vigorously in many vital areas during the recent period by operating a line for the production of medical solutions and a production line for drops, and another for insulin cartridges, in addition to a factory for the production of oncology drugs, and another for the production of preparations and biological alternatives.

Dr. Olfat stated that the group’s companies manufacture more than 1,100 medicines, with the aim of covering 100% of the Egyptian market, stressing the start of work to localize the industry with modern technologies to manufacture high-tech medicines.

Dr. Olfat announced that the company had obtained the approval of the General Authority for the Economic Zone of the Suez Canal to allocate an area of about 70,000 square meters to establish the largest factory for the production of pharmaceutical raw materials under the name of the Arab Company for Raw Materials, at a cost of $70 million.

Dr. Olfat confirmed that the company has received sufficient support from the Ministry of Health and the Medicines Authority, noting that with this project, 100% of raw materials for the manufacture of the drug will be produced in the local market, adding that the group receives sufficient support from the Egyptian state to manufacture medicines whose shortages in the market are noted, noting that the state has exported medicines to about 23 countries on the continent.

Dr. Olfat further stated that the forum will contribute to supporting the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry to face competition from some countries, including China and India, who began to acquire a large share of the African medicine market.
