Cairo Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, has underscored the strategic importance of specialized human capital at the Egyptian Projects Operation and Maintenance Company (EPROM), positioning it as a cornerstone for sustained growth and international expansion.

Speaking during the company’s general assembly, the minister highlighted EPROM’s pivotal role in managing and operating petroleum refining, petrochemicals, and infrastructure projects with high efficiency and advanced technological integration. He emphasized that the company’s highly qualified workforce—capable of adapting to digital transformation and emerging technologies—represents a critical competitive advantage.

Badawi directed the development of a comprehensive human capital investment strategy, mandating structured training programs across technical and administrative disciplines. The initiative is to be embedded within EPROM’s core operational plan, supported by a defined timeline to ensure continuous readiness for expansion opportunities. Particular emphasis was placed on advanced specializations, including maintenance planning and artificial intelligence applications.

Chairman Hossam Assaad Hassanein presented the company’s 2025 performance results, revealing a record net profit of EGP 1.586 billion—up 44% from EGP 1.096 billion in the previous year—marking the highest in EPROM’s history. The company also maintained exceptional safety standards, achieving over 70.1 million safe working hours without lost-time injuries.

Operationally, EPROM delivered strong performance across key projects. At the MIDOR Refinery expansions, the company processed 49.2 million barrels of crude oil and condensates and executed more than 101,000 maintenance orders, enabling operations to reach design capacity while improving product quality to Euro 5 specifications. Similarly, at the Egyptian Refining Company, EPROM exceeded designed operational capacity and completed a comprehensive turnaround within a record 34 days, enhancing efficiency and reducing energy consumption.

In upstream operations, the company sustained production targets in the Mellitah oil fields, increasing condensate output by 35% year-on-year. In petrochemicals, output at the Styrenics plant rose, while Egyptian Linear Alkyl Benzene Company (ELAB) surpassed 141,000 tonnes annually—well above its 100,000-tonne design capacity.

EPROM also marked technical milestones, including Egypt’s first successful loading and activation of a hydrogen purification reactor at the Assiut Oil Refining Company, alongside comprehensive technical support for the Assiut National Oil Processing Company (ANOPC) diesel complex and targeted training programs for Upper Egypt communities.

The company’s technical services extended to multiple national entities, including Alexandria Mineral Oils Company (AMOC) and the Dahshur compressor station supporting Egypt’s national gas grid, as well as the first phase of the Red Sea Petrochemicals Complex.

In digital transformation, EPROM advanced SCADA and Leak Detection Systems (LDS) for the national petroleum pipeline network, establishing central and regional control centers to enhance monitoring efficiency and emergency response times. The company also upgraded digital systems at PetroGas and the Suez Oil Processing Company, while expanding process safety applications following successful implementation in Suez.

Internationally, EPROM strengthened its footprint in 2025, undertaking operation and maintenance works at the Port Harcourt refinery in Nigeria and providing technical support for the Warri refinery. The company also entered the Iraqi market through technical service and manpower agreements, while targeting further opportunities in the UAE, Jordan, Nigeria, and Azerbaijan.

As part of its energy transition strategy, EPROM launched the “EPROM Smart Engine” platform to optimize equipment efficiency, detect leaks, and calculate carbon footprints. The company is also advancing energy efficiency projects, waste energy recovery initiatives, and feasibility studies for sustainable aviation fuel production—aligning its growth trajectory with global sustainability imperatives.

The Middle East Observer notes that EPROM’s integrated approach—combining human capital development, operational excellence, and digital innovation—positions the company as a key regional player in petroleum services, with increasing relevance across both traditional and emerging energy markets.
