ZAMBIA is scheduled to host the first Africa Forum on Private Sector Inclusive Green Growth and Job Creation where local and international experts will share policies, strategies, actions and business models among others.
Zambia Green Jobs Programme national communications and publicity officer Laura Hamusute said the forum is for the promotion of private sector inclusive green growth and job creation.
Ms Hamusute said the forum, which will attract over 120 policy-makers among other stakeholders from 25 African countries, will be held from September 6-8 this year in Livingstone to discuss policy and actions for promoting inclusive green growth and the creation of decent green jobs. She said in a statement yesterday that top on the agenda will be innovative and sustainable approaches for the promotion of private sector- led inclusive green growth strategies that result in more and better jobs for the youth.
“The Africa Forum will promote business linkages and illuminate shared value models that businesses can adopt, and specific approaches and partnerships that they can use to turn the principles of sustainable development into a competitive advantage for inclusive green growth and the creation of green decent jobs,” Ms Hamusute said.
Ms Hamusute said the high- level event is jointly organised by the Finnish-funded International Labour Organisation, Led Zambia Green Jobs Programme, Governments of Zambia and Finland, International Training Centre of the ILO, Partnership for Green Economy (PAGE) and SWITCH Africa Green. She said the event will serve as a platform for sharing lessons and best practices, and showcasing innovative solutions to developing markets for green growth and job creation through private sector development.
Ms Hamusute said the Africa Forum is in line with the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goal number eight on “promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”.
Among the notables expected at the forum are Minister of Employment of Finland Jari Lindstrom, Minister of Labour and Social Security Joyce Nonde-Simukoko, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Margaret Mwanakatwe, Finnish Ambassador to Zambia Timo Olkkonen and ILO director for Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique Alexio Musindo.
