South African Airbnb hosts rank high

Cape Town – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) hosts have made approximately $476 million the past year, according to a report by Airbnb.

South Africa has had an increasing growth in guest arrivals from BRICS nations at 380 percent.

South African hosts’ total income earned from BRICS-based guests also ranks the highest of the five countries at almost $2 million (about R26 million).

In 2016, about 63 percent of Airbnb hosts in South Africa were women. A South African woman host earned more than women hosts in Brazil, China or India.

Over 60 percent of women hosts in South Africa are what are called Superhosts. These hosts tend to guests more frequently and receive a high number of five-star reviews.

Over six hundred thousand guests arrived at Airbnb listings in South Africa in the past year alone and the leading countries of origin are the US, the UK and Germany.

In total, there have been 269 000 domestic guests arrivals within the last year and year-over-year growth in domestic arrivals came to a staggering 204%
