Ihab Wassef, member of the General Union Chamber of Commerce’s Gold Division, said that gold prices have surged by the closing of this week’s trading; reaching more than 10 Egyptian pounds per gram. He attributed these record highs to the increase in US dollar exchange rate on the black market and the low supply of dollars.
18-carat gold recorded EGP 280; 21-carat recorded EGP 324; while 24-carat recorded EGP 372.
The price of a gold coin reached EGP 2600, he said.
