A US Federal Court upheld decision of fining Apple $450m(€404m) over engaging in a conspiracy that violated federal antitrust laws.
The second circuit appellate court ruled that Apple played a “central role” in a conspiring with 5 publishers to eliminate retail price competition and raise e-book prices back in 2010. Among these publishers were CBS Corp’s Simon & Schuster Inc and Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH’s Macmillan.
Apple challenged the second circuit’s ruling, and said in a statement:
” We did nothing wrong and we believe a fair assessment of the facts will show it”.
Yet, in 2014 Apple agreed to pay the $450m settlement.
