Must read

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Russia is a chain in a series of continued dialogue with the Russian leadership to address ways to enhance economic and political bilateral cooperation.

As the visit reflects great progress witnessed by Egyptian-Russian relations during the era of President El-Sisi, the two sides are keen on coordination and cooperation and dealing with challenges confronting the Middle East and the entire world.

The visit represents a key axis in foreign politics and reflects the importance of the Egyptian role in supporting security and stability in the Middle East, as well as the Russian role in boosting international peace and security.

President El-Sisi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin several times, during which positive understanding and personal friendship reportedly developed. This represents a basis for promoting future cooperation between the two nations.

Russia is a very important world state and President El-Sisi is well aware, at the strategic level, of his relations with the Russian leader. He is also aware of the vistas of industrial, trade, economic and military cooperation between the two countries and that part of the Egyptian Armed Forces’ armament is Russian.

The visit is expected to cover combating terrorism and offering aid to Egypt in this respect through providing it with weapons, as well as attracting the Russian side to taking part in developing the Suez Canal, particularly since Russia is a key element in the nuclear Dabaa project and the programme on rehabilitating a number of major industries which Russia had participated in establishing, namely the aluminium, iron and steel complex.

The visit will not have any negative impact on Egypt’s relations with the rest of the world’s nations, particularly the United States, because Egypt has the right to diversify its international ties and establish several levels of coordination, cooperation and understanding with the active players in the world. The United States understands that its relations with Egypt are strategic and no international party can replace the US in this respect.

In addition, China, Indonesia and Singapore are legs on the president’s Asian tour. Each country has a distinguished experience that realised great achievement. Egypt, in light of its good governance, can achieve a lot of progress and prosperity and the tour will be a good opportunity for more economic rapprochement between Egypt and these nations.
