Communications and Information Technology Minister Khaled Negm promised that by the first quarter of 2016 Egypt will be ready for implementing 4G mobile Internet technology.
He added that the state’s main project now is to replace copper wire with fiber optics cables, adding that only the state should be involved in the work for security reasons.
Moreover, Negm denied that the three incumbent mobile operators were exerting pressure to block Telecom Egypt from receiving a 4G mobile license.
And he pointed out that 48 percent of all Egyptian Internet users are in Cairo.
Internet users reached 27.25 million with 31.07 per cent distribution rate according to an Information and Communications Technology Ministry report on access and use by households and individuals in 2014.
Meanwhile, mobile Internet subscriptions reached 23.3 million at the end of the first quarter of 2015, with an annual growth rate of 35.05 per cent.
