Egypt to Launch Global Tender for High-Speed Rail Management

Must read

The National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), under Egypt’s Ministry of Transport, plans to issue a global tender early next year to find a company to manage and operate its high-speed electric train network. This move comes after an initial agreement with Germany’s Deutsche Bahn stalled due to the absence of necessary technical and financial proposals.

The project, crucial for modernizing Egypt’s transport infrastructure, initially involved Deutsche Bahn managing the network for 15 years in exchange for 2% of the revenue. However, the delay has prompted the ministry to consider other partners to ensure timely project completion.

Industry experts highlight the network’s potential to boost Egypt’s economy and reduce road congestion by 30%, as per the International Transport Forum. With interest from international companies in China, France, and Japan, the upcoming tender aims to secure a partner capable of realizing Egypt’s ambitious transport vision.
