Egypt’s tourism sector delivered a historic performance in 2025, welcoming nearly 19 million tourists, a 21% increase year on year, according to official figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The growth rate significantly exceeded the global average of about 5%, as estimated by UN Tourism, underscoring Egypt’s rising competitiveness as a global travel destination.

The surge in arrivals was underpinned by a sharp recovery in air connectivity. Charter flight traffic increased by 32%, reflecting renewed confidence among international tour operators. New Alamein City emerged as one of the year’s standout performers, recording a 450% jump in charter flights, rapidly positioning itself as a new focal point on Egypt’s tourism map.

Cultural tourism also posted strong gains. Archaeological sites and museums nationwide—excluding the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and the Grand Egyptian Museum—received 18.6 million visitors, up 33.5% from 2024, highlighting sustained international demand for Egypt’s cultural heritage alongside its beach and leisure offerings.

Major gateways including Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, and Marsa Alam led tourist arrivals, reflecting the geographical breadth of Egypt’s tourism appeal. Flights operated from 193 cities worldwide to Egyptian destinations during the year, pointing to expanding global reach.

Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy described 2025 as a milestone year, citing security, stability and a clear strategic vision focused on diversifying tourism products and improving visitor experience. He said Egypt’s ability to combine cultural, beach, leisure and entertainment tourism within a single destination remains a key competitive advantage, adding that the government and private sector played a central role in delivering the sector’s strong performance.

Looking ahead, the ministry said it aims to build on the momentum through sustainable tourism growth, ensuring long-term economic returns while further consolidating Egypt’s position among the world’s leading tourism destinations.
