Alexandria marks Egypt as a Cruise destination along the Mediterranean

Must read

Alexandria’s port is experiencing a revival as Norwegian Viva, one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest vessels, made three visits between September and October 2025, bringing nearly 14,000 passengers to Egypt’s Mediterranean gateway, according to the Alexandria Port Authority.

During its latest call on October 13, the 2023-built ship was greeted by senior officials from Egypt’s Ministries of Transport, Tourism, and Interior, as well as the Tourism Promotion Authority and Alexandria Governorate. The arrival was tightly coordinated with tugboats, pilot craft, and radar monitoring to ensure smooth berthing, while passenger procedures were completed “in minutes,” the authority said.

Cruise passengers toured Egypt’s main tourist landmarks before the vessel departed for Greece as part of a nine-night Eastern Mediterranean itinerary, which includes Mykonos, Rhodes, Kusadasi, Limassol, and Santorini. The ship is scheduled to return to Alexandria on October 21.

Cruise experts hailed the repeat visits as proof of Alexandria’s growing appeal. “When a line like NCL commits to multiple calls, it shows confidence in the port’s infrastructure and visitor experience,” said analyst Dr. Helena Wu.

Following earlier visits from ships such as Nieuw Statendam and Resilient Lady, Alexandria is steadily re-emerging as a key Mediterranean cruise stop, strengthening Egypt’s efforts to revive tourism and expand its role as a regional maritime hub.
