Egypt Ranks 24th Globally and Second in the Arab and African Tourism Charts

Must read

Egypt has secured the 24th position globally in CEOWORLD magazine’s ranking of the best countries to visit in 2025, based on insights from an unprecedented 295,000+ participants, the Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) announced. With a score of 54.63 points, Egypt ranked second in the Arab world after the United Arab Emirates and second in Africa after South Africa, in a list that evaluated 67 countries worldwide.

The global leaderboard was topped by Thailand, which earned 72.15 points thanks to its mix of culinary, cultural, and leisure offerings. Greece followed in second place with 67.22 points, celebrated for its architectural diversity and island escapes, while Indonesia ranked third with 65.15 points for its natural landscapes and adventure tourism. Portugal and Sri Lanka rounded out the top five, scoring 64.32 and 60.53 points respectively. South Africa came sixth with 59.76 points, sharing its score with Peru in seventh place.

Egypt’s inclusion among the top 25 destinations underscores its growing global profile as a cultural and leisure hub. The country welcomed 15.7 million tourists in 2024, generating $14.1 billion in revenue, and continues to attract major markets including Germany, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. Tourism officials note that Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada remain popular for resort and diving tourism, while Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan dominate cultural and heritage travel.

The country is also gearing up for the long-anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in July 2025, a flagship cultural project expected to reshape Egypt’s visitor experience by showcasing thousands of Pharaonic artifacts in a single state-of-the-art venue. This project complements broader infrastructure and hospitality investments aimed at achieving Egypt’s target of 30 million tourists annually by 2028.

Regionally, Egypt’s ranking as the second most attractive destination in both Africa and the Arab world reflects its ability to balance heritage tourism with modern resort offerings. Globally, its 24th-place finish with 54.63 points highlights the country’s competitiveness in a crowded international market dominated by Asia and Europe. With ambitious growth strategies, rising visitor numbers, and expanding infrastructure, Egypt’s tourism industry is steadily consolidating its role as one of the most influential players on the global travel map.
