In a move to elevate the iconic Giza Pyramids into a premier cultural and entertainment hotspot, the Commercial International Bank (CIB) has inked a medium-term financing deal worth EGP 963 million with OSL Entertainment Projects, a subsidiary of Orascom Investment Holding. This ambitious project aims to revamp the world-renowned sound and light shows at the Pyramids and Sphinx, an initiative set to bolster Egypt’s tourism sector.
The financing agreement will fund comprehensive construction and civil works, along with the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and technology necessary for the enhanced sound and light experiences. These upgrades are expected to transform the historic Giza Plateau into a world-class Stage and destination, aligning with the Giza 2030 tourism development vision.
At the heart of the project is the introduction of cutting-edge projection and lighting technology designed to narrate the rich history of the pyramids in a captivating new format. The upgraded show promises to enrich the visitor experience, offering an immersive journey through Egypt’s ancient wonders.
In addition to updating the show, the initiative includes a thorough overhaul of the site’s infrastructure. This encompasses improvements to traffic flow within the archaeological area, expansion of parking facilities for tourist buses and private vehicles, and ensuring enhanced accessibility for people with disabilities.
Dr. Ahmed Issa, a tourism expert at the Cairo-based Center for Tourism Development, remarked, “This project is a significant step forward for Egypt’s tourism industry. It not only preserves but also showcases our heritage in a way that meets international standards, making the Giza Pyramids more accessible and enjoyable for visitors from around the globe.”
The partnership between CIB and OSL Entertainment marks a pivotal investment in Egypt’s cultural heritage, with construction expected to begin promptly. Insiders hint at potential collaborations with international tourism and technology firms to further enhance the project’s scope, with announcements anticipated later this year.
