The Middle East Observer published in its last tourism supplement an article on negligence of Ain Helwan’s sulfur water springs, which are one of the most important springs where water flows on an area of more than 12,000 thousand meters and treats many skin and rheumatic diseases. The place has turned into a wasteland and a large part of it was looted. We have raised the question whether the Ministry of Tourism or the Cairo governorate should be held accountable for this gross negligence. The media spokesperson of the Ministry of Tourism Omeyma Al-Husseini stated, “The Egyptian Tourist Authority should have utilised the Ain Helwan in promoting Medical tourism in which Egypt has planned to make a huge leap owing to its natural water springs; however, the project has been put on hold”.
Al-Husseini added, “The Cairo governorate should be held accountable for gross negligence of these historical water springs, as the governorate should have preserved the area because it is a tourist destination that must be protected.
