Passport Authorities at Cairo International Airport have started implementing new security procedures on Egyptian nationals traveling to Sudan. Passengers between 18 and 45 years of age should obtain the approval of the liaison officer which is a procedure applied for those traveling to some other countries including Turkey and Syria.
The decision has been enforced inside the airport’s passenger halls, according to security sources at the airport.
Sports teams, nationals married to Sudanese women, those traveling to attend official conferences, holders of diplomatic or special passports, students of Sudanese universities and residents of Sudan are exempted from the decision.
According to the sources, the reason behind these security measures is to tighten the security grip and prevent the infiltration of other countries via Sudan. Travel rules applied to Egyptians, particularly youth, are meant to protect their lives and save them from involvement in illegitimate activities, particularly that there is no entry visa to Sudan required for Egyptian nationals.
The countries requiring travel permits for Egyptians are; Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Israel, Albania, South Africa, Malta, Turkey, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Libya, Guinea, and Sudan.
