Egyptian Greco-Roman wrestler Mostafa Hussein claimed gold at the World Wrestling Ranking Championship in Zagreb, Croatia, delivering one of the standout performances of the early 2026 international season.
Competing in the men’s 72 kg category, Hussein navigated a highly competitive field featuring elite wrestlers from Europe and Asia, confirming his growing stature on the world stage. He sealed the title with a composed 4–1 victory over Georgia’s Nika Broladze in the final, capping a disciplined and tactically sound tournament run.
Hussein’s road to gold included narrow but decisive victories over opponents from Georgia and Uzbekistan before a commanding 8–1 win over a Kazakh wrestler in the semi-finals. His blend of technical precision, physical strength, and match control stood out in a tournament that awarded crucial ranking points toward continental championships, world events, and future Olympic qualification pathways.
A long-time pillar of Egypt’s Greco-Roman programme, Hussein has represented Egypt consistently at major international competitions and is regarded as one of the country’s most reliable performers in the middleweight divisions. His success in Zagreb reinforces Egypt’s growing competitiveness in Greco-Roman wrestling and underlines the nation’s ability to challenge established global powers in high-level ranking events.
