Egypt’s national karate team delivered a strong showing at the Premier League Championship in Turkey, held from 21 to 26 January 2026, securing multiple podium finishes across men’s and women’s kumite events.
Following the competition, Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, congratulated the players and coaching staff, saying the results reflect the advanced level Egyptian karate has reached internationally and the effectiveness of the team’s preparation.
Egyptian athletes claimed two gold, three silver and one bronze medal, underlining the team’s depth in the kumite categories. Gold medals were won by Abdullah Mamdouh Hanafi in the men’s under-75kg division and Omar Ashraf Osman Abdel Aal in the men’s under-84 kg category. Several other players reached the final and semi-final stages, contributing to Egypt’s prominent position in the overall standings.
Sobhy said the achievements highlight the sustained efforts of the athletes and technical staff, reaffirming the ministry’s continued support for the Egyptian Karate Federation to help national teams maintain strong international competitiveness and build on recent successes.
