Egypt is set to host 13 international golf tournaments over the coming four months, reinforcing the country’s growing profile as a regional hub for sports tourism. The programme was announced by Egyptian Golf Federation President Omar Hisham Talaat during a press conference at Madinaty Golf Club.
Talaat said the tournaments are expected to generate around 10,000 hotel nights, delivering a direct boost to tourism revenues and related services. He also noted that the federation has successfully turned a financial deficit into a surplus within seven months, supported by tighter cost controls and a shift toward diversified income streams, including private-sector sponsorships of international events.
Speaking at the same event, Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy highlighted the broader economic impact of hosting international sports competitions. He said such events have generated approximately two million tourist nights since 2019, contributing to the economy through sponsorships, advertising, hospitality, transport, and visitor spending.
Talaat further emphasized golf’s spillover effect on the real estate sector, noting that Egyptian developers are increasingly investing in world-class golf courses. Leveraging this infrastructure, alongside Egypt’s long-standing presence in the sport, is expected to expand participation, enhance club sustainability, and strengthen the country’s positioning in global golf tourism.
