Egypt’s Swimming Team Sweeps Arab Championship with Six Trophies in Morocco

Must read

Egypt’s swimming team has reaffirmed its dominance in regional aquatic sports, capturing an extraordinary 173 medals and six championship trophies at the 4th Arab Aquatic Sports Championship in Morocco, held from August 28 to September 1.

With a haul that included 94 gold, 53 silver, and 26 bronze medals, Egypt surged far ahead of its nearest rivals, host nation Morocco and Qatar, to comfortably top the overall medals table. The achievement cements Egypt’s position as the undisputed powerhouse of Arab swimming.

Egyptian swimmers delivered outstanding performances across all categories, claiming trophies in the 13–14, 15–16, and 17–18 age groups for both boys and girls. The feat underscores the depth of Egypt’s swimming program and its ability to consistently nurture talent at the grassroots level.

“This kind of dominance doesn’t happen by accident,” said a Cairo-based sports analyst. “Egypt’s swimming federation has invested heavily in youth development programs, ensuring that every age bracket produces athletes capable of excelling regionally and internationally.”

The championship was attended by Eng. Yasser Idris, President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee and the Egyptian Swimming Federation, who also serves as Vice President of World Aquatics. Idris congratulated the champions poolside, posing with athletes in a symbolic show of support.

In his remarks, Idris described the achievement as “a testament to years of hard work, discipline, and the collective vision to put Egyptian swimming at the forefront of Arab and African sports.”

The victory comes at a time when Egypt is seeking to enhance its global sports footprint. Beyond the Arab championships, Egyptian swimmers are increasingly making their mark at African and international competitions. In 2024, Egypt hosted several major water sports events, which experts say reflects a national strategy to position Cairo as a hub for aquatic sports in Africa and the Middle East.

Sports insiders also note that Egypt is preparing to expand its investment in high-performance training facilities, particularly ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where the federation hopes to translate regional dominance into Olympic podium finishes.
