Must read

Egypt’s U21 men’s volleyball team booked their place in the knockout rounds of the FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship after defeating Türkiye 3–2 in Jiangmen on Monday.

The Young Pharaohs edged the tie-break 18–16 after the sides split the first four sets 26–24, 22–25, 14–25, 25–17. The result moves Egypt to 3–1 in Pool A, guaranteeing qualification to the Round of 16 under the format that advances each group’s top four.

Egypt opened their campaign with a straight-sets win over Morocco on Aug. 21, followed by a 3–2 victory against Thailand the next day. Their only defeat came on Aug. 23 against the United States, who won 3–2 in a marathon encounter.

As of Aug. 25, the Pool A standings show the U.S. leading at 4–0, with China and Egypt both on 3–1 and Türkiye trailing at 1–3. Morocco and Thailand remain winless. Egypt’s final group-stage match will be against hosts China on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 17:00 local time (12:00 Cairo).

The Egyptian delegation is headed by Maj. Gen. Khaled Abu Zeina, vice president of the national federation. The team is led by head coach Ahmed Samir Eldardiri with support staff including Hossam El-Din Shaarawy (assistant coach), Ahmed El-Nabawy (technical analyst) and Sameh Nour El-Din (rehabilitation).

This year’s championship is the first to feature 24 teams, grouped into four pools of six. The event runs from Aug. 21 to 31 in Jiangmen, southern China. Volleyball World—the commercial venture between FIVB and CVC Capital Partners—manages broadcasting, with all matches streamed on VBTV.

Egypt, already the leading African side in this edition, will look to finish the group strongly against China before entering the Round of 16 on Aug. 27.
