Global Reports Highlight Egypt’s Rising Performance in Safety and Stability Measures

Must read

Egypt has registered notable improvements across a range of international peace, safety, and security indicators over the past decade, according to data published by leading global institutions including the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), the World Economic Forum (WEF), and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN).

In the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025, issued by the IEP, Egypt advanced 38 places compared with its 2014 ranking, reaching 107th place. The improvement reflects stronger performance in indicators related to safety and security, including declines in violent crime and violent demonstrations, positioning Egypt among the most improved countries globally over the ten-year period.

Parallel gains were recorded in global competitiveness and safety benchmarks. According to WEF data, Egypt climbed 63 places in the Security and Safety Index, reaching 73rd place in 2024, compared with 136th in 2015. The country also rose 19 places in the Safety Walking Alone at Night Index, ranking 10th globally in 2024, an indicator often cited as a proxy for public perceptions of urban safety.

UNSDSN indicators similarly point to progress in crime control. Egypt advanced 21 places in the Control of Crime Index, reaching 81st place in 2024, compared with 102nd in 2014, suggesting improvements in institutional capacity to address criminal activity.

International data also show a marked decline in terrorism and violent crime metrics. In the IEP Global Terrorism Index, Egypt moved from 11th place in 2014 to 29th place in 2024, with the lower ranking reflecting a reduced impact of terrorism. Meanwhile, Egypt advanced 111 places in the IEP Crime Perception Index, reaching 32nd place in 2025, indicating a substantial improvement in public perceptions of crime levels.

Homicide-related indicators further reinforce this trend. Under WEF metrics, Egypt advanced 24 places in homicide rate rankings to 44th place in 2024, while UNSDSN data show a 23-place improvement to 56th place over the same period, compared with 2014 benchmarks.

International testimonials have also highlighted Egypt’s security environment. The UK government has stated that crime levels in Egypt are generally low, noting that nearly one million British tourists visit the country annually, with the vast majority of trips reported as trouble-free. In parallel, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) confirmed Egypt’s exclusion from the list of Countries of Particular Concern (CPC) for the ninth consecutive year, from 2017 through 2025.

Collectively, these indicators suggest sustained improvements in Egypt’s internal security and public safety environment, even as global reports note a broader decline in peacefulness worldwide. Analysts say Egypt’s upward trajectory across multiple international indices underscores the cumulative impact of security reforms, counterterrorism efforts, and institutional strengthening over the past decade.
