El-Sisi Hosts Sudan’s Al-Burhan in Cairo to Discuss Stabilizing Sudan

Must read

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi welcomed General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, head of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, for crucial discussions in Cairo aimed at fostering bilateral cooperation and supporting efforts to restore stability in Sudan. The meeting underscores Egypt’s commitment to Sudan’s unity and peace.

The leaders are set to explore collaborative strategies to promote development and address pressing regional issues. Their dialogue comes in the wake of Al-Burhan’s March declaration of Khartoum as “free” from the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) following a significant military campaign, marking a pivotal moment in Sudan’s ongoing conflict.

Since the outbreak of war in April 2023 between Sudan’s army, led by Al-Burhan, and the RSF under Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hamditi), the nation has been embroiled in turmoil. The conflict, rooted in disagreements over the RSF’s integration into the military, has resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of lives and widespread human rights abuses, with the army maintaining control over the north and east, while the RSF dominates much of Darfur and the south.

Egypt has consistently voiced support for efforts to achieve peace and stability in Sudan. As both leaders engage in talks, the international community watches closely, hopeful for a resolution that will pave the way for lasting peace and prosperity in the region.
