Egypt, Korea Sign $10M Pact to Modernize Green Auto Vocational Training

Must read

Egypt and South Korea have formalised a USD 10 million cooperation agreement to modernize Egypt’s vocational training infrastructure in electric vehicle (EV) and compressed natural gas (CNG) technologies. The deal was signed under the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) program in partnership with Egypt’s Productivity & Vocational Training Department (PVTD).

The project, officially named “Upgrading Green Automotive Maintenance Technology for Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in Egypt,” will target four training centers in Shoubra, Imbaba, Moharram Bek (Alexandria), and Kafr El-Zayat. It seeks to:

Enhance programs in EV, hybrid, and CNG maintenance

Modernize existing curricula for gasoline vehicles

Provide simulation systems, diagnostic tools, and advanced equipment

Increase the capacity and capability of trainers via training phases in Korea and on-site

Supply Korean technical support and volunteer involvement at the centers

The agreement was signed by South Korea’s Ambassador to Egypt, KIM Yong-Hyon, and Egypt’s Minister of Planning & Economic Development, Rania Al-Mashat, with senior officials such as Deputy Prime Minister Kamel El-Wazir, PVTD Chairman Ehab Abadallah Ramadan, and KOICA Country Director Sooyoung Park in attendance.

Ambassador Kim emphasized that the pact not only strengthens technical education but also reflects three decades of Egypt–Korea cooperation, stating it will empower youth and support sustainable development in the automotive sector. El-Wazir underscored the urgency of equipping technicians for EV battery repair and advanced diagnostics. Minister Al-Mashat noted the alignment of the project with Egypt’s economic plan to shift toward high-value and productivity sectors.

KOICA has a longstanding presence in Egypt, having supported curriculum reforms, equipment procurement, and vocational training projects between the 1990s and 2010s in Cairo, Alexandria, and Kafr El-Zayat.

This five-year initiative is scheduled to run through 2030 and is expected to boost the employability of technical workers and support Egypt’s transition to greener mobility sectors.
